Even today, you can still see parts of the Lake District, just as they were in Beatrix Potter’s time. Scenes that featured in her watercolours and story illustrations are still there and you can still visit them. But you can also visit them from the comfort of your own home in this informative and entertaining DVD. It features selected watercolours and sketches, shows how they were used as backgrounds in the books and then shows the same scenes as they are today. On the sound track, you’ll hear tuneful light classics recorded by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London, one of the world’s truly great orchestras. Enjoy the pleasure of listening to selections from Beethoven, Handel, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi while you enjoy the beauty of the Lake District as it was – and is.
German born - George Frederic Handel moved to London, England when he was 26 and quickly established a reputation as a major composer. He became a naturalised British citizen in 1727 and remained there until his death in 1759. The Water Music was first performed in London in 1717 for His Majesty King George 1. The orchestra comprised 50 musicians on a barge moored in the River Thames. The performance was so enthusiastically received by the King that he ordered several repeats, one after the other. Handel’s Water Music is one of the most popular pieces of light classical music in the world. Enjoy its sparkle, mirrored by scintillating views of the Lake District captured by award-winning cameraman David Baillie. A perfect match of scenes and sounds by two masters of their respective arts.
